Who should attend: All Homeless Providers which includes Coordinated Entry, Shelter, Street Outreach, Rapid Rehousing providers, Transitional Housing Providers, Permanent Supportive housing providers, and Safe Haven.
Explanation: This session is an introduction to the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) for housing providers and recipients of covered federal funds. While the session gives broad information about VAWA for many programs, this session aims its information towards those housing providers and consumers who are or might be a participant in the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program, programs funded by the Continuum of Care, or a program funded with Emergency Solutions Grants Program.
Applicants and/or consumers of these programs cannot be denied admission or denied assistance because they are or have been a victim of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, or stalking, as defined by HUD.
Participants will Gain an understanding of
• VAWA and HUD definitions for domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, or stalking.
• Housing Providers obligations to assist victims in safety planning and moves because of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, or stalking.
• Where to go for technical assistance when a consumer or housing provider encounters domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, or stalking.
