This seminar begins with an introduction to web-based resources and the functions of the Miami Valley Fair Housing Center. The class has an in-depth review of the History of discrimination against people with disabilities in the United States. This section examines the misconceptions many people have about people with disabilities and uses a film portraying people with disabilities showing viewers people with disabilities facing both good and bad experiences while seeking housing. The class materials review the “good business” side of welcoming people with disabilities and some best practices when speaking and interacting with people who are blind, deaf, or have some other disability with substantial impact to one’s everyday life. The class also covers: COVID 19 and Fair Housing Issues, Assistance Animals, Harassment and Domestic Violence related to one’s disability.
Instructor:
John Zimmerman, is the Vice President of the Miami Valley Fair Housing Center, in Dayton, Ohio. He is certified by the Ohio Division of Real Estate to conduct education classes on Fair Housing, providing continuing education credits for REALTORS® and appraisers. John has helped provide continuing education credits for property managers, nurses, social workers, CPA’s, city planners, contractors and architects by working collaboratively with trade organizations, non-profits and other educational organizations. He has a Bachelor’s degree from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio.
